The spot price of gold hit a new record high of US$1826.84 a troy ounce as global growth concerns encouraged fresh investment in the yellow metal, widely viewed as a safe haven amid economic uncertainty.
The latest flight to gold as a safe haven asset was fuelled by a slump in global equity markets and weak US economic reports.
Dow Jones Newswires reported that European equity markets plunged sharply Thursday, with the financial sector hit particularly hard as investors worried that recent weak economic data could be a harbinger of renewed recession in the developed world. U.S. stock markets opened sharply lower after separate reports showed that the number of people claiming new jobless benefits rose last week and consumer inflation resumed its climb last month.
"These problems in Europe and the U.S. aren't going to go away any time soon," said Bill O'Neill, a principal with Logic Advisors. "It's making gold and Treasuries the favourite investment vehicles."

New worries that Europe and the United States are sinking into a recession roiled global stock markets on Thursday, while panicky investors pushed gold and US Treasury bonds to fresh records.
The worldwide sell-off came after Wall Street investment bank Morgan Stanley warned that the US and eurozone economies were "dangerously close" to a double-dip recession.
Stocks were further punished by a fresh round of gloomy economic data from the United States and growing doubts about the ability of European banks to withstand the eurozone's debt crisis.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 3.7 percent at the closing bell, while the broader S&P 500 slumped 4.5 percent and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite plummeted 5.2 percent.
Banking stocks were hit hard, with Bank of America plunging 6.0 percent and Citigroup falling 6.3 percent.
Losses were even worse in Europe, as London stocks closed down 4.5 percent, Paris fell 5.5 percent and Frankfurt dropped 5.8 percent.
A report in The Wall Street Journal that the US Federal Reserve was worried about the liquidity of major European banks contributed to the sell-offs in European markets.
French lenders came under especially intense pressure, with Societe Generale losing more than 12 percent.
"The concern is that the escalating European sovereign debt crisis -- which is now engulfing larger countries -- and the potential fall-out for the banking sector and financial markets, could provide a killer blow," said Nick Kounis, an economist at ABN Amro.
The toxic cocktail of negative news sent gold flying to a new record price of $1,828.80 per ounce as investors sought the precious metal, seen as a safe haven in times of financial turmoil.
Investors also flocked to the traditional safe haven of US government debt, briefly pushing down the yield on the 10-year Treasury to a historic low of 1.974 percent, breaking the previous record set during the 2008 crisis.
The 10-year yield later recovered to 2.07 percent. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
"This is another flight to safety. We got the typical move in gold, in the Treasuries. You're pretty much seeing panic all over again," said Marc Pado, chief US market strategist for Cantor Fitzgerald.
Oil prices slumped as traders fretted that an economic downturn could deeply erode global energy demand. New York's main oil contract lost $5.20 to close at $82.38 per barrel -- a plunge of nearly six percent. In London, Brent North Sea crude fell more than three dollars.
The US Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said that manufacturing in the mid-Atlantic states took a sharp hit in August, compounding fears that the United States was slipping back into recession.
Investors were also spooked by US government data showing that new claims for unemployment insurance rose by 9,000 last week.
"A negative feedback loop between weak growth and soggy asset markets now appears to be in the making in Europe and the US," Morgan Stanley said in a bleak new assessment of the global economy, which also contained pointed criticism of US and European policy-makers.
The bank cut its 2011 global growth estimate to 3.9 percent from 4.2 percent, and the 2012 forecast to 3.8 percent from 4.5 percent.
Mature economies could expand by just 1.5 percent this year and next, it said, citing "recent policy errors in the US and Europe plus the prospect of further fiscal tightening in 2012."
In the forex market, the dollar gained against the euro. The greenback was trading for $1.4337 against the euro at 2100 GMT on Thursday, compared to $1.4428 at the same time Wednesday.
"The euro is seen as a risky currency because the debt crisis remains unresolved, so it is losing some ground," said Samarjit Shankar, managing director for foreign exchange at BNY Mellon.
The dollar slipped slightly against the yen, falling to 76.52 yen from 76.54 on Wednesday.
It rose against the Swiss franc, climbing to 0.7936 francs from 0.7897 a day earlier.
The dollar gained against the British pound, strengthening to $1.6520 versus the pound from $1.6545 on Wednesday.

World stock markets stabilizing after deep dives
08th August 2011
BANGKOK (AP) — World stock markets stabilized Tuesday after a day of dramatic plunges as futures pointed to a measure of calm returning to Wall Street following the Dow's sixth-worst decline in the last 112 years.
To be sure, investors remained on edge amid fears of a possible global recession. But by late afternoon, major Asian indexes had pulled back from a dizzying tailspin earlier in the day. Key European bourses opened higher.
Futures suggested U.S. stocks would recuperate Tuesday. Dow futures were up 307 points, or 2.9 percent, at 11,032 and broader S&P 500 futures added 33.70 points, or 3 percent, to 1,145.50.
In Europe, Britain's FTSE 100 was up 0.7 percent at 5,103. Germany's DAX rose 1.5 percent at 6,009 and the CAC-40 in Paris jumped 2.1 percent at 3,191.
Some analysts said short covering — when traders are forced to buy stock after having earlier sold borrowed shares in a bet that the market would fall — may have stanched the flow of money out of equities earlier in the day. Short covering generally causes stocks to go up.
"Fear and anxiety ruled the morning session with broad based capitulation giving way to some mild buying and serious short covering this afternoon," Ben Potter, market strategist at IG Markets in Melbourne, said in a research note.
South Korea's Kospi lost 3.6 percent to 1,801.35 after plummeting nearly 10 percent in the morning. Hong Kong's Hang Seng, which fell as much as 7 percent, was down 2.3 percent at 20,024.93.
Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average pulled back from a fall of more than 4 percent to close 1.7 percent lower at 8,944.48 — its lowest closing since March 15 — just days after the earthquake and tsunami disasters.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index moved into positive territory — closing up 1.2 percent at 4,034.80 — while mainland China's key indexes fell modestly. The big moves, which added to sharp losses in the past few days, came after the Dow Jones industrials fell 634.76 points on Monday. It was Wall Street's first day of trading after Standard & Poor's downgrade of the U.S. credit rating — which jolted the global financial system and reinforced anxiety that the U.S. economic recovery is stalling.
"It's still very hard to predict how the U.S. market will do," said Jackson Wong, vice president of Tanrich Securities in Hong Kong. "When the dust settles, if the situation doesn't get worse in the U.S. or Europe, the situation will rebound. But the U.S. has to stabilize."
Worries about the U.S. economic recovery have been building since the government said that economic growth was far weaker in the first half of 2011 than economists expected. Intensifying concerns were reports showing that the manufacturing and services industries barely grew in July, although job growth was better than economists expected last month.
Investors are also worried that Italy and Spain could become the next European countries to have trouble repaying their debts. Greece, Ireland and Portugal have already received bailout loans because of Europe's 21-month-old debt crisis.
The fears have pushed investors to shun Spanish and Italian bonds, which have led to higher yields and in even higher borrowing costs for the two countries.
The European Central Bank stepped in Monday and bought billions of euros worth of their bonds. The move helped to lower yields on Spanish and Italian bonds, at least temporarily.Benchmark oil for September delivery traded at $79.47 on the New York Mercantile Exchange after falling to $75.71, its lowest since September 2010. The contract settled at $81.31 per barrel on the Nymex on Monday.
In currencies, the dollar weakened to 77.41 yen from 77.70 yen late Monday in New York. The euro rose to $1.4262 from $1.4196.

US loses AAA rating
Article By: Hugues Honore and Paul Handley
Sun, 07 Aug 2011 10:42 IAFRICA.COM- http://business.iafrica.com/worldnews/745448.html
Standard & Poor's cut the US credit rating for the first time in history on Friday, saying the country's politicians are increasingly unable to come to grips with its massive fiscal deficit and debt load.
S&P cut the US rating from its top-flight triple-A one notch to AA+, and added a negative outlook to it, saying there was a chance it could be downgraded again within two years if progress is not made cutting the huge government budget gap.
It said the "political brinksmanship" of recent months shows that governance in the country is becoming "less stable, less effective, and less predictable," raising the risks that it one day might not honor its debt.
It was the first time the US had been downgraded since it received an AAA rating from Moody's in 1917; it has held the S&P rating since 1941.
The rating came after a strong pushback from the White House, which called S&P's analysis of the economy deeply flawed and politically-based.
A Treasury spokesperson alleged that there was a "two trillion dollar error" in the S&P analysis, arguing that the agency admittedly used the wrong baseline and erred on spending plans and debt projections.
But John Chambers, chairman of the S&P sovereign ratings committee, defended the decision.
"It's a matter of the medium and long-term budget position of the United States that needs to be brought under control," he said on CNN.
"This is a problem a long time in the making whether this administration and prior administration," he said.
He pointed to the White House, Democratic and Republican lawmakers battling for months until the country was on the precipice of default last Tuesday before they finally agreed to a deal to raise the nation's debt ceiling and slash the deficit.
The fight had sent jitters across the global economy.
A debt downgrade will be a symbolic embarrassment for President Barack Obama, his administration and the United States, and could raise the cost of US government borrowing.
There were also worries that the downgrade would wreak unpredictable havoc in global financial markets where the US dollar has long been the most important currency.
But some analysts believe the cut will not have much impact at all.
Indeed, despite a downgrade hanging overhead, the Treasury easily auctioned off tens of billions of dollars in new debt this week, and Treasury yields fell to the year's low.
S&P linked the downgrade directly to the stalemate in US politics.
Tuesday's fiscal consolidation plan "falls short of what, in our view, would be necessary to stabilize the government's medium-term debt dynamics," it said.
"More broadly, the downgrade reflects our view that the effectiveness, stability, and predictability of American policymaking and political institutions have weakened at a time of ongoing fiscal and economic challenges to a degree more than we envisioned" back in April.
S&P said the negative outlook pointed to the possibility of lowering the rating to AA within two years if the political will to cut weakens or economic conditions worsen.
"Our opinion is that elected officials remain wary of tackling the structural issues required to effectively address the rising US public debt burden in a manner consistent with a 'AAA' rating."
S&P is considered the most influential of the three major rating agencies which also include Moody's and Fitch -- both of which said this week that they continue to review the country's deficit reduction plan for possible downgrades.
S&P first warned Washington of a possible downgrade in April.
Then in July, during the protracted standoff over raising the government's debt ceiling between Obama and Republicans, S&P placed the United States on credit watch and warned of a possible cut within 90 days.
The agency indicated it would wait to see what the warring Republican and Democratic lawmakers came up with in their deficit reduction plan.
The plan finally agreed on Tuesday calls for $917-billion in cuts over 10 years, but also mandates an as-yet unnamed congressional panel to come up with another $1.5-trillion in cuts by the end of the years.
That fell short of what S&P has been saying would merit retaining the AAA rating: $4-trillion in deficit reduction over 10 years that includes both cuts and revenue increases, which Republicans have refused to accept.
But Chambers suggested the political dysfunction is what drove the rating.
"The first thing it could have done is raise the debt ceiling in a timely manner so the debate would have been avoided to begin with," he told CNN.

Why I Left Jihad ? Ex-Muslim militant Speaks Out - Part1
This is so AMAZING what Yahshua/Jesus is doing in the Muslim world. Tears rolled down my eyes as I watched various clips of Muslims turning to Messiah Yahshua/Jesus and being reminded that our King is truly merciful, compassionate and desires to forgive. He desires that all should be saved and that He is not slow in His coming but wanting none to perish.
May we be reminded that even we who were once enemies of YHWH/God were forgiven and now by His Grace have been made apart of His Kingdom and Body. As we stand on the truth we now know, may we not be judgemental towards those who are lost and who have the opportunity of coming to know the love of our Messiah!
Be blessed as you watch these clips. This is Part one, the rest is found on Youtube :)
Shalom and Blessings!
The Coming is Upon Us - Translation: Reza Kahlili (Author of "A Time To ...
Shalom Brothers and Sisters,
This movie clip was shown to me last night and we as children of the true, living Elohim need to wake up and pray like we have never prayed before. This clip will give you insight into Iran and other Muslim leaders who believe these are the last days and they need to prepare the way for their Messiah. They believe Islam will be established and Jews along with Israel must be destroyed. Unfortunately what they have been told and believe is that their Messiah will bring peace for 7 years but we know that the Bible it states that the Antichrist will accomplish this task when he appears on earth. How much more would the muslims follow this Anti-Messiah when he accomplishes that.
We need to pray for our Muslim brothers and sisters that they will come to the knowledge of the truth and turn to the only true Messiah Yahshua/Jesus Christ.
Blessings and peace in our King YHWH!

Friends,
From time to time, someone under 30 will ask me, "When did this all begin, America's downward slide?" They say they've heard of a time when working people could raise a family and send the kids to college on just one parent's income (and that college in states like California and New York was almost free). That anyone who wanted a decent paying job could get one. That people only worked five days a week, eight hours a day, got the whole weekend off and had a paid vacation every summer. That many jobs were union jobs, from baggers at the grocery store to the guy painting your house, and this meant that no matter how "lowly" your job was you had guarantees of a pension, occasional raises, health insurance and someone to stick up for you if you were unfairly treated.
Young people have heard of this mythical time -- but it was no myth, it was real. And when they ask, "When did this all end?", I say, "It ended on this day: August 5th, 1981."
Beginning on this date, 30 years ago, Big Business and the Right Wing decided to "go for it" -- to see if they could actually destroy the middle class so that they could become richer themselves. And they've succeeded.
On August 5, 1981, President Ronald Reagan fired every member of the air traffic controllers union (PATCO) who'd defied his order to return to work and declared their union illegal. They had been on strike for just two days.
It was a bold and brash move. No one had ever tried it. What made it even bolder was that PATCO was one of only three unions that had endorsed Reagan for president! It sent a shock wave through workers across the country. If he would do this to the people who were with him, what would he do to us?
Reagan had been backed by Wall Street in his run for the White House and they, along with right-wing, wanted to restructure America and turn back the tide that President Franklin D. Roosevelt started -- a tide that was intended to make life better for the average working person. The rich hated paying better wages and providing benefits.
They hated paying taxes even more. And they despised unions. The right-wing hated anything that sounded like socialism or holding out a helping hand to minorities or women.
Reagan promised to end all that. So when the air traffic controllers went on strike, he seized the moment. In getting rid of every single last one of them and outlawing their union, he sent a clear and strong message: The days of everyone having a comfortable middle class life were over. America, from now on, would be run this way:
* The super-rich will make more, much much more, and the rest of you will scramble for the crumbs that are left.
* Everyone must work! Mom, Dad, the teenagers in the house! Dad, you work a second job! Kids, here's your latch-key! Your parents might be home in time to put you to bed.
* 50 million of you must go without health insurance! And health insurance companies: you go ahead and decide who you want to help -- or not.
* Unions are evil! You will not belong to a union! You do not need an advocate! Shut up and get back to work! No, you can't leave now, we're not done. Your kids can make their own dinner.
* You want to go to college? No problem -- just sign here and be in hock to a bank for the next 20 years!
* What's "a raise"? Get back to work and shut up!
And so it went. But Reagan could not have pulled this off by himself in 1981. He had some big help:
The AFL-CIO.
The biggest organization of unions in America told its members to cross the picket lines of the air traffic controllers and go to work. And that's just what these union members did. Union pilots, flight attendants, delivery truck drivers, baggage handlers -- they all crossed the line and helped to break the strike. And union members of all stripes crossed the picket lines and continued to fly.
Reagan and Wall Street could not believe their eyes! Hundreds of thousands of working people and union members endorsing the firing of fellow union members. It was Christmas in August for Corporate America.
And that was the beginning of the end. Reagan and the Republicans knew they could get away with anything -- and they did. They slashed taxes on the rich. They made it harder for you to start a union at your workplace. They eliminated safety regulations on the job. They ignored the monopoly laws and allowed thousands of companies to merge or be bought out and closed down. Corporations froze wages and threatened to move overseas if the workers didn't accept lower pay and less benefits. And when the workers agreed to work for less, they moved the jobs overseas anyway.
And at every step along the way, the majority of Americans went along with this. There was little opposition or fight-back. The "masses" did not rise up and protect their jobs, their homes, their schools (which used to be the best in the world). They just accepted their fate and took the beating.
I have often wondered what would have happened had we all just stopped flying, period, back in 1981. What if all the unions had said to Reagan, "Give those controllers their jobs back or we're shutting the country down!"? You know what would have happened. The corporate elite and their boy Reagan would have buckled.
But we didn't do it. And so, bit by bit, piece by piece, in the ensuing 30 years, those in power have destroyed the middle class of our country and, in turn, have wrecked the future for our young people. Wages have remained stagnant for 30 years. Take a look at the statistics and you can see that every decline we're now suffering with had its beginning in 1981 (here's a little scene to illustrate that from my last movie).
It all began on this day, 30 years ago. One of the darkest days in American history. And we let it happen to us. Yes, they had the money, and the media and the cops. But we had 200 million of us. Ever wonder what it would look like if 200 million got truly upset and wanted their country, their life, their job, their weekend, their time with their kids back?
Have we all just given up? What are we waiting for? Forget about the 20% who support the Tea Party -- we are the other 80%! This decline will only end when we demand it. And not through an online petition or a tweet. We are going to have to turn the TV and the computer and the video games off and get out in the streets (like they've done in Wisconsin). Some of you need to run for local office next year. We need to demand that the Democrats either get a spine and stop taking corporate money -- or step aside.
When is enough, enough? The middle class dream will not just magically reappear. Wall Street's plan is clear: America is to be a nation of Haves and Have Nothings. Is that OK for you?
Why not use today to pause and think about the little steps you can take to turn this around in your neighborhood, at your workplace, in your school? Is there any better day to start than today?
Yours,
Michael Moore

Guest Comment: Israel In My Heart by Karin Ranielli (Sweden)On the evening of July 27 we were more than 2000 people gathered in the sanctuary of the Word of Life church in Uppsala Sweden to listen to the Israeli ambassador Benny Dagan and pastor Ulf Ekman. It was very heart-warming to see the beautiful star of David on the wall and the Israeli flag alongside the Swedish one. It was very obvious that the ambassador Dagan felt that he was among friends and he also expressed that feeling to us all. Before sharing his views on what s going on in the Middleeast, he expressed his deepest sympathy for the people of Norway, telling us that he had visited the Norwegian embassy to give his condolences. Ambassador Dagan then went on to thank the Word of Life for their unwavering support of Israel: "Thank you for your support! It s a joy to to be here, we know that we can always count on you!" .
Ambassador Dagan shared his and the Israeli government s view on the peace process. He talked about the importance of Israel being a Jewish state, that there is a strong bond between the land and the Jewish people , a bond that started some 3000 years ago. The history of the Jewish state started there and it was reborn there. He was very clear in his statement that Israel will never accept a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state, that Israel has every right to be a Jewish state with secure borders and that Israel has the right to defend herself against rocket attacks, that are an everyday experience of the Jewish people. He also said that Israel has demanded an end to hate propaganda in Palestinian education. Ambassador Dagan also pointed out the fact that Hamas has not recognized Israel as a Jewish state but continue in their call for the destruction and murder of Jews. The ambassador went on to talk about the ideology and belief of the Israeli society, that the y have a strong economy and has absorbed millions of immigrants. In closing he urged us to spread the words of truth, the true story of Israel, to fight against anti-Semitism "enough is enough"!
Pastor Ulf Ekman gave a very passionate address, quoting Psalm 137 and also Romans 11. He talked about our common history, that we the gentile Christians have been grafted in the cultivated olive tree and that we should never forget that. He said that Israel is mentioned daily in the media but that the reports are biased and distorted and often fabricated lies. Pastor Ekman asked us all to picture what it would be like to almost daily live under the threat of being attacked by rockets and bombs. In closing he reminded us of the fact that we are forever connected with the Jewish people, that we are in fact indebted to them, because from them we have received the Bible, the Messiah our Saviour, our ethics and our future. He also said: "it is utter hypocrisy to have one set of standards for Israel and another one for the rest of the world." He called on us all to stand up for Israel s right to exist as a Jewish state, to defend her right to defend herself and to speak up against anti-Semitism.
" As long as the Jewish spirit is yearning deep in the heart, with eyes turned toward the East, looking forward to Zion then our hope, the two-thousand-year-old hope, will not be lost: to be a free people in our land the land of Zion and Jerusalem"
For me personally it was very moving to sing the Hatikva - the Hope - with the rest of the people there that evening. It s not just the anthem of Israel, it is my anthem, too. Israel belongs to me, too, or rather I belong to Israel. Jerusalem is the undivided capital of Israel, may it always be so. May we all pray for the peace of Jerusalem, for the peace of Israel, may we always stand up for the right of the cultivated olive tree to grow strong and flourish, may we spread the Word of our Messiah and do it faithfully until He returns to His Holy City!
Psalm 137, 5-6 "If I forget you, o Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill. May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not consider Jerusalem my highest joy" NIV
The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel. Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God. Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to. Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF -they are defending and fighting for the Kingdom of God.Shabbat Shalom .... THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS
1. Firefight on Israel-Lebanon Border Israel Today News Aug 1st Israeli and Lebanese soldiers enaged in a brief gun battle along Israel's northern border on Monday. An Israeli border patrol came under fire from a Lebanese soldier while conducting a routine operation. The Israelis returned fire, wounding the soldier. There were no Israeli casualties. Lebanese media claimed that the Israeli patrol had crossed the border into Lebanon, thus justifying the attack. But Israel insisted its troops were on the Israeli side of the internationally-recognized border when they were fired upon. This would not be the first time the Lebanese army has attacked an Israeli border patrol unprovoked. In 2010, a Lebanese army sniper shot and killed an Israeli commander as his troops worked to prune a tree that was disrupting the Israel's electronic border fence. Israel's retaliatory fired killed two Lebanese soldiers. In that incident, too, the Lebanese claimed the Israelis had crossed the border line. But UN officials later confirmed that the Israelis had been operating on their side of the so-called "Blue Line." Lebanon refused to apologize.
Lebanon does not recognize the Blue Line as the international border, even though the UN does. Lebanon insists that the Blue Line puts some Lebanese territory inside Israel. The Lebanese position regarding the Blue Line has only hardened since Hizballah gained control of the government in Beirut. Please pray that this incident does not escalate into something more serious
2. Abbas Tells Palestinians: "Step Up Arab Spring-Style Protests Against Israel" Ha Aretz News July 28th For the first time, Palestinian president Abbas has openly urged popular activism in support of his initiative to seek UN recognition of a Palestinian state. He urged Palestinians on Wednesday to step up protests against Israel, urging "popular resistance" inspired by the Arab Spring to back a diplomatic offensive at the United Nations. Abbas, addressing a Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) meeting, reiterated his decision to seek full UN membership for a Palestinian state alongside Israel, saying it was a diplomatic move resulting from paralysis in the U.S.-backed peace process. "In this coming period, we want mass action, organised and co-ordinated in every place," Abbas said. "This is a chance to raise our voices in front of the world and say that we want our rights." Abbas' comments to the PLO central committee in Ramallah marked the first time he had openly urged popular activism in support of the initiative, echoing a call made last week by Marwan Barghouti, a leading Palestinian imprisoned in Israel. Palestinian officials are describing the diplomatic initiative as part of a new approach to their struggle to create an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Israel is concerned that September could serve as a platform for protests inspired by Arab uprisings this year. Said Abbas; "Every day, we face things that drive us to carry out popular resistance on a wide scale and not in one place. I insist on popular resistance and I insist that it be unarmed popular resistance so that nobody misunderstands us. We are now inspired by the protests of the Arab Spring, all of which cry out 'peaceful', 'peaceful'." Hany al-Masri, a political analyst, said there were still question marks over whether Abbas was serious in his call. Abbas, 76, may still be nervous about the scope for protests to spiral out of control, he said. Please pray that Israel will quickly deal with and put down any uprising
3. Israeli Military Preparing for New Palestinian Violence in September Israel Today News July 28th The Israeli army (IDF) has been busy procuring new weapons for its soldiers in preparation for the aftermath of the Palestinian Authority's unilateral statehood bid in September. It is widely expected that after the Palestinians petition the UN to recognize a Palestinian mass popular violence will break out against Israel. If the UN votes to recognize "Palestine," most Palestinians want their own armed forces to sieze territory from Israel, including eastern Jerusalem. If the UN rejects the bid, Israel believes the various Palestinian terror groups will launch a new intifada (terrorist uprising). In either case, Israel knows all too well how the international community will respond if the Jewish state uses deadly force to defend itself.
As such, the IDF is distributing weapons with reduced lethality to front-line units. Among these weapons is a new receiver for the standard-issue M-16 assualt rifle that allows it to fire 0.22 mm rounds, which are not lethal from long distance. Israeli snipers will also be issued non-lead impact bullets that do not penetrate skin, but still deliver a painful blow. The army is also preparing to deploy new non-lethal weaponry, including the "Scream," which uses bursts of sound to disorient rioters, and the "Skunk Bomb," which needs no explanation. Despite Israel's extensive and costly efforts to avoid casualities in the expected coming violence, precedent suggests that the international community will still find an excuse to blame Israel for the situation. Please pray that the IDF will be fully prepared in time
4. Israeli President in Secret Talks With PA Ha Aretz News July 29th President Shimon Peres has been holding intensive talks with Ramallah in an effort to resume negotiations and head off a unilateral Palestinian statehood bid at the UN in September. Apparently the meetings are being held in complete coordination with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Haaretz has learned that on Tuesday night, Peres held a long meeting with the chief Palestinian negotiator, Saeb Erekat. The two went over maps of the West Bank and East Jerusalem in an effort to find a formula that would bypass the dispute over establishing the June 4, 1967 border as a basis for negotiations toward a final settlement between Israel and the Palestinians. One option explored was the exchange of territory, and others was to compensate the Palestinians for settlement blocs annexed into Israel, on the basis of the U.S. proposal that the area of a Palestinian state be equal to the territory of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Both the president's and prime minister's bureaux refused to comment on the report. A senior Palestinian source in Ramallah confirmed that Erekat met a number of times with Peres, including this week.
A hint at the meetings with the Palestinians could be found in statements made by Peres during a special message to the Arabic media on the eve of Ramadan, which is expected to begin early next week. "I speak with all sides," Peres said. "I know that there are exchanges in order to prevent [the crisis] in September and that the differences are very minor." Officials fear that heightened tensions and violence could break out come September, when the Palestinian Authority is expected to appeal to the UN for recognition as a state, a move which may push the two sides further apart. Peres also told the reporters there is no basis to the claims that Netanyahu is planning to void the Oslo Accords. Pleas e pray that there will be NO land for peace negotiation - it is not anyones and to give away - it is the Lord's land
5. Egyptians Call For Sharia Law & Islamic Caliphate Israel Today News July 31 Tens, and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Egyptians poured into Cairo's now-famed Tahrir Square on Friday to demand their nation become subject to Sharia Law and form the cornerstone for a new Islamic caliphate. The unplanned demonstration erupted following Friday prayers at mosques around the Egyptian capital. The demonstrators, who were led by the increasingly powerful Muslim Brotherhood, demanded that Egypt's interim military regime give way to an intolerant Islamic dictatorship. Various news media reported the demonstrators shouting and holding up signs reading: "Egypt will return to Sharia Law!", "Liberals and secularists are the enemies of Allah!", and "The solution is Islam!"
When Egyptians ousted former dictator Hosni Mubarak in February, the international media made much of how conservative Muslims, Coptic Christians and Egyptian secularists worked together for the common goal of democratic freedom. The prevailing assumption was that Egypt would serve as a model of how a diverse, but tolerant Middle East society could throw off the shackles of dictatorial oppression and build something better. But Egyptian commentators are now saying that what is happening in their country more closely resembles the Iranian revolution.
6. Gaza Missiles Strike Deeper Into Israel Israel Today News Aug 4thPalestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip late Wednesday night fired two long-range GRAD missiles into southern and central Israel. The first missile exploded on the outskirts of the town of Kiryat Gat, which is at the southern end of Israel's densely populated central region. The second landed within the city limits of the southern port of Ashkelon. The attacks caused no injuries, but a road was damaged in Ashkelon. Israeli officials said they view the attacks as an escalation of violence, as GRAD missiles are far more accurate than the Palestinians' locally-produced Kassam rockets, can travel much further, and carry a larger payload.
In response, Israeli forces attacked several terrorist installations in Gaza on Thursday morning, reporting direct hits on their targets. Despite the mounting violence, Israel continues to go out of its way to aid the local Palestinian population by improving economic conditions. Late last month, the Israeli army stressed its ongoing efforts to help Palestinian farmers export their produce to European markets. When some of that produce failed to meet the standards of European importers, the Israeli army set up a seminar for Palestinian strawberry growers with an expert in that field. The expert taught the Palestinians how to more properly prepare their soil, make use of pesticides and fertilizers and handle the picked fruit. Please pray for calm to return to the Israel / Gaza border7. Israeli Jets Attack Gaza Targets For Second Night in a Row Ha Aretz News Aug 5th Israel Air Force jets attacked five targets in the Gaza Strip early Friday morning in response to the firing of Grad rockets at Israel in the last several days. Hours before the air strike a rocket fell in an open field near the town of Kiryat Gat. The rocket was the third of its kind in 24 hours, but it caused no injuries or damage. An IDF Spokesperson said that planes attacked three tunnels used for terror activity and a terror activity site in central Gaza and another terror activity site in southern Gaza. The IDF added that, "The IDF will operate with determination and respond with force against any terror organization attempting to disturb the way of life or harm the citizens of Israel. The IDF holds the Hamas terrorist organization solely responsible for any terrorist activity emanating from the Gaza Strip." Two additional rockets landed on Wednesday, one near Ashkelon and the other near Kiryat Gat. A woman was lightly wounded on Monday when a Qassam rocket landed near a kibbutz near Ashkelon.
In response to rocket fire Thursday night, the IDF fired rockets of its own at eastern Gaza in trying to hit the cell that had fired the original rockets. Two Palestinians were wounded in the attack, though it was unclear if they were among the militants. The Abdallah Azzam Brigades took responsibility for the militant rocket fire. The Azzam group is connected to global jihadists and the namesake of the group is considered to be the spiritual progenitor of Osama bin Laden. Islamic Jihad and other extremist groups that have splintered off from more established militant groups have been responsible for the rocket attacks in recent days. Security sources in Israel said Thursday night that the Hamas government in Gaza is opposed to this round of rocket fire and is currently making an effort to halt it, arresting a number of militants. At this time, the IDF does not believe that the events will lead to a general escalation in violence unless there are casualties from rockets launched at Israel. Mayors of towns in the area are worried about a possible escalation and have been making appropriate preparations in recent days. Please pray that the IDF will succeed in striking those responsible for the rocket attacks

Gold hits new record high
Article By: Sherilee L Lakmidas
Tue, 02 Aug 2011 6:10Iafrica.com News - http://business.iafrica.com/news/744816.html
The gold price added more than US$20 dollars an ounce on Tuesday, reflecting the lingering fears of investors over the health of the global economy.
Gold rallied to a fresh all time high of $1642.10 an ounce on Tuesday and by mid-afternoon was trading at $1640.70, having gained $22.70 an ounce from its previous JSE close of $1618.
The precious yellow metal's latest push upward came following a spate of poor economic data from the US, Europe and China that suggested that global economy growth was still sliding.
It also moved higher despite the US's last-minute approval of a debt deal that saved it from default.
Overnight the compromise deal that would raise the US debt ceiling by $2.1-trillion and cutting spending by up to $2.5-trillion over the next decade was pushed through but the move has not appeased skittish investors who realise that the move is a prelude to a long-term tough fiscal consolidation in the world's largest economy.
"Despite news that the US had tentatively reached an agreement to extend the debt ceiling, this important news seems to have now been eclipsed with the markets also very much concerned that the US may see a downgrading by credit agencies," said Ross Norman, a precious metals analyst at Sharps Pixley in London.
Investors have also still not dismissed the threat of another global economic crisis with European economies still at risk.
Europe, which holds around 35 percent of South African government debt, is fighting to keep its head above debt.
On Tuesday Spanish and Italian bond yields, or interest rates, hit record highs while the euro lost ground against most major currencies.
The yield on Italian 10-year bonds rose to nearly 6.3 percent during the day while the equivalent Spanish bonds went up to almost 6.5 percent early on Tuesday.
Countries effectively lose the support of international markets once their yields reach seven percent, when margin calls are triggered.
"The market place is fickle but many times predictable in its actions," said Jim Wyckoff of Kitco News in a note on Tuesday.
"However, it was also a 'buy the rumour, sell the fact' scenario regarding the US debt deal and the market place. And as expected, the market place has now moved on to other worries, this time regarding a potential US debt downgrade, the EU debt crisis, and a world economic slowdown," Wyckoff said.
Also supporting the yellow metal Tuesday was news of purchases of gold by central banks.
South Korea's central bank acquired 25 tons of gold in June and July - its first purchase since the Asian financial crisis more than a decade ago.
This takes its total gold holdings to 39.4 tons at the end of July and increases the gold portion of South Korea's official foreign reserves to US$1.32-billion at the end of July from US$80-million at the end of June.
In the meantime, the Greek central bank added a further 1000 ounces of gold to its reserves in June - the second increase in two months. This brings its gold reserves to 3.585 million ounces, which is down slightly from the 3.601 million ounces held in May 2010 after the central bank sold a small amount of its holdings last year.
"News that both the Korea and Greek Central Banks had both acquired gold has provided a powerful indicator that investor interest is not the only factor driving the market higher. The switch into gold by central banks is very much a reversal of the policy a decade ago and with concerns about the ratings attached to US debt that momentum can only intensify," said Norman.
Looking ahead we see the momentum amongst gold buyers being maintained and fully expect gold to achieve US$1,850 this year," said Norman.
This was Sharps Pixley's forecast at the beginning of the year and Norman says it is sticking by this view. Its forecast was the highest of 25 analysts surveyed by the London Bullion Market Association at the beginning of the year. All forecasters expected gold to hit record highs this year, with a predicted average high of $1633 an ounce.
"Gold is a barometer and it is giving a very clear signal - that signal is saying that there are some deep and fundamental economic issues that remain unresolved and it does not see the political will or courage to make the changes that are necessary," said Norman.

The CARMEL ALERT July 29th 2011A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
for the Restoration of Israel & the Jewish People
A Messianic Ministry Based on Mt Carmel
David's Comment: NO !!! to a Palestinian State Lev 25:23 'The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; (NKJ)
Now that the threat of the 2nd Flotilla is behind us, and most government leaders and lNGO's (non-goverment organisations) acknowledge that there is no humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, we hope that is the end of these pointless endeavours to break Israel's coastal blockade of the Gaza coastline. With that behind us the focus is now back to the PA pressure on the UN to unilaterally declare a Palestinian State this coming September.
As I have stressed in a number of previous comments it is very clear from the Bible that this contested land was without a shadow of doubt given by God to Abraham and the descendants of Isaac & Jacob - the Jewish people. To claim otherwise is to call God a liar. (see http://www.hallindsey.com report 22/7)
I have also written many times that there is no legitimate "Palestinian Peopel". (see http://www.out-of-zion.com/conflict/No%20Palestinian%20State.htm) These people are simply Arabs from various neighbouring countries who migrated to the area that was called the region of Palestine from 70 AD to 1948. The word "Palestine" was adapted from the word "Philistine" by the Romans to curse the Land of Israel. Before 1967 Arabs refused to be called "Palestinians". It was Yassar Arafat & the PLO who began to use this term after the end of the Six Day War.
The people now claiming to be "Palestinians" & the Israelis have been in conflict over the land ever since. Now after 44 years it is coming to a head. Most of the Western World and much of the Church have been deceived by a lack of knowledge of history or wrong theology to believe the Israelis are illegally occupying the land. Again this is calling God a liar.
Yeshua is coming back to a united Jerusalem, under Jewish control, as the capital city of Israel - not "Palestine". Lord please forgive me for even using the horrid word ! He is coming back to be the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings to rule over His Fathers kingdom. He will sit on the Throne of David which will sit where the Holy of Holies sat in the Temple on the Temple Mount. O how the Devil hates even the thought of it. He is doing his best to prevent the 2nd coming of Yeshua and this attempt to create a state other than Israel on God's land is the Devil's work.
The resurrection of Israel in 1948, the return of the Jews and the increasing size of the land is all part of Gods plan in preparation for the re-establishment of His Kingdom on the Earth - In ISRAEL. Any backward move by Israel, is a backward step in the return of the Lord and the coming of the Kingdom.
Hence as servants of the LORD, I believe we all need to be involved in prayer at this extremely strategic time.
The enemy is very focused and very well organised. They realise the importance of the next few days and weeks. I was sent the following information and feel that is it very important that I pass it on. They are trying to get as many people sign a petition. We need pray against this petiition.
Please go to the website and have a look at what the enemy of God's Kingdom is up to. http://avaaz.org/en/independence_for_palestine_9/?slideshow This is an issue for urgent prayer. From my initial look at their site, it seems to be humanistic ideology that is really being used by the evil one.
I feel this is highly important and we need urgent prayer against this website and its campaign. The website Avaaz.org states: “To the leaders of France, Spain, Germany, the UK and the High Representative of the EU and all UN member states: We urge you to endorse the legitimate bid for recognition of the state of Palestine and the reaffirmation of the rights of the Palestinian people. It is time to turn the tide on decades of failed peace talks, end the occupation and move towards peace based on two states...
Posted: 22 July 2011 In four days the UN Security Council will meet, and the world has an opportunity to embrace a new proposal that could turn the tide on decades of failed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks: UN recognition of the state of Palestine. Over 120 nations from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America have already endorsed this initiative, but Israel's right-wing government and the US vehemently oppose it. Europe is still undecided, but a massive public push now could tip key countries to vote for this momentous opportunity to end the occupation. US-led peace initiatives have failed for decades, while Israel has confined the Palestinian people, confiscated their lands and blocked Palestine from becoming a sovereign political entity. This bold new initiative could be a game changer, but Europe must take the lead. Let’s build a massive global call for key European leaders to endorse this statehood bid now, and make clear that citizens across the world support this legitimate, non-violent, diplomatic proposal. Sign the petition and send this to everyone...”
The numbers adding to this demand are increasing by the hour. Please pray against this. Please pray that this campaign would fail. Please continue to pray that the Israeli government would not give in to the world's demands, and would scrap any plans of giving up Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem
There is far too much distortion within the media, which is being blindly accepted by many people without checking the truth. Please do continue to pray for the truth to be revealed regarding how Israel, and in particular Gaza, are portrayed by the media.
Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims, and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF -they are defending and fighting for the Kingdom of God.
Shabbat Shalom .... David & Josie
THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS
1. Muslim Threat Forces Glenn Beck Rally off Temple Mount Arutz 7 News July 22nd Glenn Beck has been stared down by 40,000 Muslims and said he is moving his “Restoring Courage” rally next month from the Temple Mount. One possible venue is the Mount of Olives. Beck was in Israel 2 weeks ago at the invitation of Knesset Members Danny Danon (Likud) and Nissim Ze’ev (Shas) to offer advice on fighting the worldwide campaign to make Israel appear illegitimate. Beck also ironed out details of the rally that he announce earlier this year, but he told viewers on his television program, “I told you last Friday we had heard…that 40,000 Muslims would be on top of the Temple Mountduring the rally…. “When we heard about the Muslims, we knew there was trouble… The firs time I was in Israel, they were throwing stones down on the heads of Israelis praying” at the Western Wall. “When I heard ’40,000,’ my security said, 'Your back is in their direction, and these people play for keeps.’”
Beck explained his change of location by stating that “courage is coupled with wisdom” and that he would not put his lives and the lives of others in jeopardy. He added that the original choice of the Temple Mount for the rally was not his decision, saying it was chosen for him, and implying that he was directed to it by the Creator. “It was my understanding we would be the first Christians to use the site as a high profile event.” Beck added that he believes the rally “will be remembered by millions in the world as a turning point in their own personal lives and their world. However, we prefer that turning point is not World War III." He said he soon will decide whether to hold the rally inside the walls of Jerusalem or directly outside, “maybe the Mount of Olives, which would be kind of appropriate. We would be looking at the eastern wall... We believe the messiah will go through there” even though it is bricked up, as if “some people think you can stop the messiah with bricks.” Please pray that this historic event will go ahead without any hindrances or opposition2. Iranian Nuclear Scientist Shot Dead in Teheran Ha Aretz News July 26th Gunmen on a motorcycle assassinated an Iranian nuclear physicist on Saturday. The semi-official ISNA news agency identified the victim as Darioush Rezaei, a 35-year-old physics professor involved in Iran's nuclear program and said he was shot dead in front of his home in Tehran. Several Iranian nuclear scientists have been murdered in recent years in attacks that Iran has blamed on the US and Israel, which both accuse Iran of seeking to develop a nuclear weapons capability under the cover of its civilian atomic energy program. Please pray that Iran will never be able to complete its nuclear weapon program.Turkish PM: No Normalisation With Israel Until an Aplogy & End of Gaza Blockade Ha Aretz News July 26th3 Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday that his country will not normalize its relations with Israel as long as Israel does not apologize for the killing of nine Turkish pro-Palestinian activists during the takeover of the Mavi Marmara ship last year. Erdogan added that Israel should compensate the families of those killed and end the blockade of the Gaza Strip. Erdogan said he supports the Palestinians, and those who are dedicated to the Palestinian cause. He added that Turkey supports the Palestinian intention to seek UN recognition in September and that the entire world should take action in order to remove the Gaza blockade. He added that Israel should accept the fact that East Jerusalem will be the capital of the Palestinian state.
4. Italy Stands by Israel - Boycotts Durban III Arutz 7 News July 25th Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini announced Friday that Italy has decided to boycott the Durban III Conference to be held in September due its anti-Israeli nature. He noted that previous conferences were used as an arena to hurl accusations at Israel rather than discussing the struggle against racism, discrimination and xenophobia. Frattini noted that Italy chose not to attend the second Durban Conference in 2009 for the same reasons. Italy joins the US, Israel, and Canada, all of which have already announced they will not attend Durban III. The Durban II Conference in 2009 was boycotted by nine countries including Israel, the US, Germany, Australia, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Poland. Please pray that many more countries will follow Italy's example
5. The UN's Hostile Obsession With Israel Israel Today News July 22 This September two important events, both dangerous to Israel, will take place at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The first, as many know, is the Palestinian Authority's effort to win international support for its unilateral statehood bid. The second, which is closely related, is the third World Conference Against Racism, dubbed "Durban III." The first such conference was held in Durban, South Africa. Both that and the second Durban conference quickly disintegrated from legitimate discussions on racism into orgies of anti-Israel sentiment. The question both of those gatherings raised, and which Durban III is certain to raise again, is why the world has such an unnatural obsession with bashing Israel?
This enormously informative video presentation put together by the Messianic-led Jerusalem Institute of Justice explains how an organization that claims to protect human rights is doing just the opposite when it comes to Israel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Mupoo1At8&feature=player_embeddedPlease pray that the UN will wake up to its foolishhness 6. New Layer of Gas Discovered Off Haifa Coast Ha Aretz News July 24th
A deeper layer of natural gas has been discovered at the Tamar field, off the coast of Haifa, according to a report published on Thursday by Delek Drilling and Avner Oil Exploration. The significance of the newly discovered structure will depend on the amount of natural gas at Tamar and on the estimations of additional layers in other areas of the Mediterranean Sea that have not yet been discovered.Lets give thanks to the Lord for the gas & oil that He has given Israel
7. Islamic Jihad Leader Killed in Gaza Road Accident Ha Aretz News July 25th Four members of the Islamic Jihad's al-Quds Brigades were killed when their car collided with a truck in the Gaza Strip last Friday. The al-Quds Brigades confirmed that Abu Fadi Razayna, a leader in the group, was among the dead. The al-Quds Brigades constitute the military wing of Islamic Jihad.
