S.Africa's petrol, diesel price to rise sharply

Yahoo News - Reuters
30th March 2012 - http://za.news.yahoo.com/africas-petrol-price-rise-6-3-pct-next-132441032.html

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa's petrol and diesel prices will increase from next week, partly reflecting higher fuel and road levies announced in the February budget, the energy department said on Friday.
Petrol prices in the main inland commercial region of Gauteng will increase by 71 cents or 6.3 percent a litre to 11.94 rand for 95 grade petrol while the wholesale diesel price will rise by about 5 percent to 10.89 rand.
South Africa is a net importer of oil and adjusts its fuel price each month to account for changes in the dollar/rand exchange rate, the international oil price and government levies.
In February, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan said the country's general fuel and road accident fund levy on petrol and diesel would increase by 20 cents a litre and 8.0 cents a litre from April 4.
Analysts have also said the country's oil import bill could increase after the government confirmed that it would cut its dependence on buying oil from Iran, the world's fifth-biggest exporter.
South Africa imported no oil from Iran in January, according to government trade and customs data, suggesting Africa's biggest economy has heeded a call from the United States to halt oil shipments from Tehran as part of Western sanctions.

Gold headed for $2,175? Morgan Stanley thinks so and here is why

28th March 2012
Financial Post - http://business.financialpost.com/2012/03/28/gold-headed-for-2175-morgan-stanley-thinks-so-and-here-is-why/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+FP_TopStories+%28Financial+Post+-+Top+Stories%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

Gold prices have been well off their highs on the strength in the U.S. dollar, but Morgan Stanley analysts continue to be bullish on gold for 2012.
Fed action, including the likely adoption of QE3 in the first half of the year, is expected to boost gold prices. Moreover:

“…Recent coordinated actions by six central banks and separate actions by the ECB suggest that non-gold related measures to ease access to USD swaps will be successful, reducing downside pressure on the gold price.”

Drawing on this they think gold prices will depend on the persistence of four pillars of the original bull market namely:

1. Decline in producer hedging. Last year gold mining companies growing cautious on gold volatility began hedging to lock-in prices for their future output. But Morgan Stanley analysts say a decline in hedging or a potential de-hedging could be a “positive demand factor”.
2. The decline of developed market central bank sales and rise of emerging market central bank purchases
3. The inability of gold mining companies to increase gold supplies materially
4. Long-term growth in physical investment demand.
Morgan Stanley projects gold prices will rise to $1,845 per ounce in 2012 and $2,175 in 2013. For now they see that absence of central bank sales, limitations in size of the scrap gold pool, the rising demand from ETFs and coin sales is likely to see the bull market last into 2012 – 2013.

The CARMEL ALERT  March 30th 2012
A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
for the Restoration of Israel & the Jewish People...

David's Comment:   NOW is the Time for the Jewish People to Come Home
Ezekiel 36:8-10  "But you, O mountains of Israel, you shall shoot forth your branches and yield your fruit to My people Israel, for they are about to come.   "For indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you shall be tilled and sown.  "I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities shall be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.   (NKJ)

A month or so back i wrote a comment titled   "No Time Like the Present to Come to Israel."   That comment was written to the non-Jewish people of Israel, in the hope of encouraging more Christians to visit the Holy Land.  This weeks comment is focused on the Jewish people who are still living in the nations or the Diaspora as we call it here in Israel.  You may have already guessed that I have been inspired to write this because of the terrible tragedy in France last week.  An Israeli rabbi who was working as a teacher at a Jewish school Toulouse, and six and three-year-old daughters, and the eight-year-old daughter of the school's principal were shot to death at the Jewish school by an Islamic fundamentalist terrorist.  This horrifying incident has once again shaken the Jewish world and has initiated calls from various government leaders in Israel, for Jewish people to return home to the land that God promised Abraham and our forefathers.

We believe that on May14th 1948, Isaiah 66:8  was miraculously fulfilled as the nation of Israel was born in a day, after 1900 years of non-existence.  Jewish people began to return to Israel at the beginning of the 20th century.    At first it was just a trickle which slowly became a stream, and then following the end of World War II and the attempted decimation of European Jewry, the stream became a river.  At one point in the early 1990s, following the demise of the Soviet Union, when it was the world that was for is what is it the river became a torrent, as a thousand Russian speaking Jews poured into Israel through Ben Gurion airport and the seaports every day.   Currently about 1000 Jewish people are returning to Israel every week.

All in all, more than 6 million Jews have returned to Israel in the last 100 years. However there are still many many more to come.  As we read in the opening verse of this weeks comment, God says that he will bring all of the house of Israel, all of it back to the land of their forefathers.  In Ezekiel 39:29 He says that he will leave none behind, captive in the nations, any longer.  Josie and I are people who take the Lord at His word.  The major focus of Josie's prayer and intercession ministry,  is to encourage Christians to pray for, and assist in the repatriation of the Jewish people to the Land.  In Hebrew this is called "Aliyah".
In Isaiah 49:22,  we read that God is calling the Church in the nations to bring His sons in their arms and His daughters on the shoulders.  We see this as a direct call to Christians everywhere to get involved with Aliyah.

Over the last 10 years, as Arab and media propaganda has turned much of the Western world and even many in the church against Israel, the level of anti-Semitism in almost every nation has increased dramatically.  In Berlin Jewish people are saying that it feels like 1932 again.  There has been physical attacks on Jewish people in France, Britain and in the USA, some of them involving loss of life.  Synagogues and other Jewish buildings have been attacked in the US, India, Australia, and even in New Zealand.   And now we have this terrible tragedy in Toulouse.   We believe that just in the pre-Holocaust days of the Nazi regime in Germany,  the news media is fanning the flames of anti-Semitism.  We believe there is another Holocaust in the making.  Many will say "oh that could never happen here", but that is what the Jewish people said in Europe in 1938 and 1939.  History declares that they were wrong and 6 million perished.

That is why we have now is the time for the Jewish people here to leave the nations where they have been living, and return the Promised Land.  Tragically most of the Jewish people ignored the warnings of the Zionists in the decade prior to the Holocaust.  Lets pray they don't make the same mistake again. Josie and I invite you to join your hearts and your prayers with us, as we beseech the Lord to move upon the hearts of Jewish people everywhere and stir them to return to the land that he promised Abraham and his descendants as an everlasting inheritance  -  the land of Israel.

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent at this most strategic time, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to.   Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims,  and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF - they are defending and fighting for the soon  coming Kingdom of God.

Shabbat Shalom .... David & Josie

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. Israel Furious at EU Leader Equating French Murders with Gaza    Israel Today News  Mar 24th
European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton once again found herself the focus of much acrimony in Jerusalem this week after she seemed to equate the murder of four people at a Jewish school in southern France with the casualties of war in Gaza.   The Jewish school attack was one of the more heinous examples of pure anti-Semitism in recent decades. The full extent of the barbarity was revealed by eyewitnesses who spoke to local and international media.   According to eyewitnesses cited by Israel's Ynet news portal, the Muslim gunman first targeted and gunned down from close range 30-year-old Yonatan Sandler, who was at that moment holding his 3-year-old and 6-year-old sons, the very image of innocent fatherly love.
Another of the killer's victims, 8-year-old Miriam Monsonego, tried to escape as fast as her little legs could carry her. But the killer was having none of it. He reportedly grabbed the girl by the hair and shot her from point-blank range. As the girl lied bleeding and dying on the ground, the killer wanted to make sure the job was finished, so he lifted up little Miriam's head and fired two additional rounds into her already-broken body.  Neither the Sandlers nor little Miriam had done anything to provoke such a murderous attack. It was a deliberate, brutal and heartless execution of innocent life.
By contrast, Israel's military strikes on Gaza are a response to incessant rocket fire on the cities and towns of southern Israel. Despite the fact that international law affords Israel the right to return fire on the aggressors, the Israeli army goes to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties, which is very difficult considering Gaza-based terrorists usually launch their attacks from civilian areas. Many planned Israeli strikes are called off because commanders deem the risk of collateral damage to be too great.   In short, Israel does not strike Gaza arbitrarily or indiscriminately.
Ashton knowingly lumped Israel's careful defensive measures against Gaza's terrorist infrastructure together with two brazen terrorist attacks and one blood-soaked crackdown by a rogue dictatorship.   Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak responded by saying, "I hope that the EU's foreign minister will quickly realize the mistake she made and withdraw her comments."    Opposition leader Tzipi Livni blasted Ashton's statement as "unacceptable, outrageous and wrong. There is no similarity between an act of hatred or a leader killing members of his nation and a country fighting terror, even if civilians are harmed."   Interior Minister Eli Yishai insisted that Ashton was harming Europe's ability to act as an honest broker, and called for her resignation. Ashton's refusal made her an instant celebrity in Hamas-ruled Gaza.
Its time for Ashton to go  -  please pray for her to be removed from office

2. Iran Planned to Bomb Israeli Ship in Suez Canal    Ha Aretz News   Mar 25th
An Egyptian press report revealed Saturday that two Egyptians were recently arrested and investigated for allegedly planning an attack on an Israeli ship in the Suez Canal. The questioning of the two found they had received their instructions from Iranian agents and had asked a third person to carry out the act in exchange for 50 million Egyptian pounds. The assault was said to involve launching a missile at ships from a farm bordering the canal. Israeli authorities have warned that Iran is setting up terror infrastructures on Egyptian soil to ready the ground for an operation. A high-ranking official in Jerusalem recently confirmed Iranian military experts have been active in Sinai and the Gaza Strip. "Several terror groups are now at large in Sinai," the source explained. He included local Bedouins, who are adopting the ideology of the Global Jihad - groups supported by Iran, who are trying to recruit and train terrorists not only in Sinai but throughout Egypt - and Palestinian organizations. "Joining them are Global Jihad organizations from Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen and Saudi Arabia," said the official. He explained that many Palestinian organizations use the Sinai Peninsula as a convenient area for activity and warned that Libya has meanwhile been transformed into a huge arms depot, from which weapons are transferred to Egypt and then the Gaza Strip.
Please pray those who deal in arms smuggling and plan murderous attacks will be averted and brought to justice.

3.  Russians Almost Finished Constructing Iranian Reactor   ICEJ News   Mar 24th
Sergei Kiriyenko, chief of Russia's state nuclear company Rosatom, told reporters on 21 March that despite international sanctions and a long list of logistical problems, construction of Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant is on schedule. He also denied rumors that his company would assist the Islamic Republic in the construction of additional nuclear power plants. The remarks came the same day as Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Israel Radio that Israel and the US are on a different timetable in regards to steps necessary to halt Iran's renegade nuclear program. He added that the way to solve the problem was to set a clear goal for upcoming negotiations between Teheran and the P5+1 nuclear powers and make clear that there is a limited amount of time to reach it. "There is a difference in perspective," he said. "The US is looking at this as the leader of the world, and Israel is looking at it as someone threatened from up close."    Elsewhere, South African Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim told reporters that his country had joined the list of countries almost completely oycotting imports of Iranian crude oil. "[To my knowledge], no Iranian oil is flowing into our country," Ebrahim said. "If there is any, it is very little."
Please pray that the Lord will supernaturally cause the reactor to be destroyed

4.  Thousands Expected to March Against Israel's Borders    Israel Today News  Mar 27th
Israeli forces this week are gearing up for the annual "Land Day" marches by Arabs inside Israel and outside its borders. The event, scheduled for this Friday, promises to be a more severe challenge this year after regional powers like Iran, Hizballah, the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas became actively involved in planning the march.    Thousands of people from the Middle East and other parts of Asia have reportedly arrived in Syria and will begin their trek to the Israeli border in the coming days. Similar marches are planned from Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, and from within the Palestinian Authority-controlled territories.
Israel has called on neighboring governments, particularly Jordan and the PA, to help prevent an escalation of violence by not allowing the marchers to storm Israel's borders. Just in case the mobs do manage to penetrate the borders, Israeli forces are being outfitted with a variety of non-lethal crowd control tools. Israel is concerned about a repeat of last year's "Nakba Day" marches from Syria into northern Israel. Hundreds of Arab rioters protesting the "catastrophe" of Israel's rebirth as a nation-state managed last May to infiltrate northern Israel and clash with Israeli soldiers, leading to the deaths of 13 demonstrators and harsh international criticism of Israel.
The Land Day marches are a protest of Israel's sovereignty over lands the Arabs claim as their own. This year, the international effort is focusing on Jerusalem amid claims that Israel is increasingly trying to "Judaize" the city. Most Arabs deny the Jews' historical and religious connections to Jerusalem.
The Muslim Brotherhood and other Arab groups have promised that the demonstrations will be non-violent, but these things have a way of quickly spiraling out of control. And, of course, there is no way Israel can allow the huge number of foreign marchers to actually reach Jerusalem.
Please pray that this protest march will fizzle out and come to nothing

5.  PM Netanyahu Meets With Gilad Shalit    Ynet News  Mar 28th
Gilad Shalit who was released five months ago after five and a half years in Hamas captivity met on Thursday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuin Tel Aviv. Gilad's parents Noam and Aviva were also present at the meeting.   Shalit thanked Netanyahu for his release to which the prime minister responded with: This year the holiday of liberation (Passover)gets a special meaning. From slavery to freedom; from darkness to light.  "You are looking very well and it is evident that you are coming back to life. I'm happy that you are proving (your ability) to overcome all; that you went to see a basketball game and gained weight."
The prime minister mentioned that throughout the period of Gilad's captivity, his wife Sara told him again and again to think of the boy living in darkness.
Shalit confirmed that he had gained 6 kilograms since his release. Now time goes by faster and I'm more active. For example, I have a more varied daily routine. I even came here on the train. Soon I'll be discharged from the army.   Gilad's father Noam added that the family sought to meet the prime minister because they wanted to thank those responsible for the release of their son. Aviva Shalit gave the prime minister a book with a dedication: â€Å“To the Prime Minister Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu, with respect and esteem…from Gilad and the Shalit family.   Aviva added: It was important for me to come here today with Gilad so that you will see how whoever saves one life, saves the world entire. We came to say thank you to you and your wife who was in constant contact with me.  Soon Sergeant First Class Shalit will be discharged, though an exact date has yet to be decided.  Shalit will continue to receive treatment from the Defense Ministry which will decide his status as a disabled IDF veteran. He will be entitled to further medical and psychological care and may receive a monthly allowance as a disabled IDF veteran.
Please pray for Gilad's complete restoration

6.  Obama Administration Refuses to State Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel

Today, at the daily State Department press briefing,  official State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland repeatedly refused to state that the Obama Administration recognizes Jerusalem as the Capital of the State of Israel.   In answer to the question: "Is it the view of the - of the United States that Jerusalem is the capital of  Israel, notwithstanding the question about the embassy - the location of the U.S. embassy? Nuland said, "We are not going to prejudge the outcome of those negotiations, including the final status of Jerusalem."    In other words, all of Jerusalem is up for grabs in the eyes of the Obama Administration.        Lets pray that there is a change of heart in the US Government  concerning Jerusalem

7.  Israel and the EU Sign 'Open Skies' Agreement    ICEJ News   Mar 24th
Adding another nail in the coffin of Israel's 'isolation' in the world, the Jewish State signed an 'open skies' agreement with the EU on Tuesday, opening the way for much cheaper airline flights between Israel and the EU. The agreement, which is scheduled to be fully implemented by 2017, was the result of over three years of negotiations. It includes the removal of taxes, standardization of regulations and other measures designed to ensure that aircraft from any EU city will be able to land in Israel and vice versa with a minimum of hassle and expense. Israeli and EU officials voiced hopes that the result will be increased tourism and economic cooperation, as well as expanded trade and human links.   Please pray for stronger ties between Israel & Europe

Mrs. Sandler, Mother and Wife who just lost her husband and two boys, urges Jews around the world to do good in memory of the beloved victims.

Note: What a precious letter written by a Mother and Wife who just lost her Husband and two beautiful boys to a killer who was filled with lies and hatred.  To shoot a little boy with no remorse is beyond humanity!!!  May we remember her and her family in our prayers this Shabbat and not only this Shabbat but forever.

http://www.aish.com/jw/s/A_Letter_from_Toulouse.html

Many of us spent the week after the March 19, 2012 massacre at the Ozer Hatorah Jewish school in Toulouse, France, unable to get the images of it out of our heads. We pictured the killer, Mohamed Merah, riding his motorcycle calmly up to the school gates as parents droppecd their children off at the start of the day. We kept replaying the survivor’s words as they described the scene: first shooting Rabbi Jonathan Sandler along with his two sons, 6-year-old Aryeh and 2-year-old Gavriel. Then grabbing 8-year-old Miriam Monsonego by her long blond hair, and, according to witnesses, holding on to her while he fumbled, trying one gun then another, finally shooting her in the head before easily walking away.

French news reports minutes after the massacre showed a tearful woman sobbing as she told reporters “I feel like these are my own children,” and for a moment all Jews around the world – indeed, all feeling people – knew what she meant. I imagined the ache in the hearts of the victims’ families, their loneliness that night without their slain children.
And then, four days later, I didn’t have to only imagine any more. When I opened my email in-box before Shabbat, there were several emails from different people, all forwarding me the same letter written by a grieving Mrs. Eva Sandler, penned days after her husband and two sons were murdered.
As she contemplated the first Shabbat of her new life, her first Shabbat without her husband and beautiful boys, she had no words of recrimination, no thoughts of revenge. Instead, she had a message for all Jews. In memory of what happened to her own family and to little Miriam Monsonego, Mrs. Sandler, asked Jews around the world to undertake a few simple actions.
• Kiss your children, and tell them you love them. Tell them how much it means to you that they grow up with Torah values, showing love of their fellow people and a connection with their Creator.
• Increase your study of Torah, and take it one step further: help others to study Torah too.

• Light Shabbat candles, and even do so early, to “increase light in the world."
• Finally, in the memory of the Toulouse victims, invite guests to your upcoming Passover Seders. Make sure every Jew has a place to celebrate Passover.
I forwarded the email to everyone I know, and, as I got ready for Shabbat that night, vowed to put Mrs. Sandler’s thoughts into action.
The first request was a challenge: I do light candles as the sun sets on Friday evenings, but this time I raced around, finishing my usual preparations, in a rush to light them earlier than required. My family chipped in, and we did it, bringing extra minutes of Shabbat light into our homes. We used our extra Shabbat time to sit together, reading to each other and chatting. Mindful of the letter, I told my kids I loved them. It was a strange feeling: I was indebted to Mrs. Sandler for her suggestions, but also felt guilty, enjoying myself while she is in mourning.

Later, as we welcomed Shabbat guests, Mrs. Sandler’s letter was all everyone could talk about. So many people had read it already: in just a few hours before Shabbat, it had raced around the blogosphere, being forwarded again and again, reaching untold numbers of inboxes.
The timing was propitious.
Somehow, through her grief, Mrs. Sandler managed to send her letter to world Jewry just hours before the start of the Hebrew month of Nisan, in which the holiday of Passover falls. Thousands of years ago, all the Jews gathered together to leave Egypt.
It’s so hard to imagine that sort of pulling together among our diverse community today. But every now and then, an event catches all Jews attention, reminds us all that we are one extended family. The horrible deaths of Jewish school kids in Toulouse got our attention, and Mrs. Sandler’s letter helped channel many of our feelings in the aftermath.

The next day, Shabbat, I was still trying to live out the letter. I dragged my kids to a Torah class at a local synagogue (to increase my Torah learning) – and found it packed with people, many of whom were consciously trying to fulfill Mrs. Sandler’s wishes. One woman stood up and asked people to contact her if they were looking for a Passover Seder, specifically citing Mrs. Sandler’s letter. Another woman had sponsored a beautiful meal at the synagogue for those attending the class, and she stood up too. She said she wanted to dedicate the meal and the learning that was to follow to the victims of the shooting in Toulouse, but was soon overcome with tears and found it difficult to go on. We all knew how she felt.
As Shabbat wore on, I was troubled by one thought. Mrs. Sandler’s letter, and my own efforts to implement it, had enriched my Shabbat. I’d lit candles in memory of her sons and husband, I’d learned Torah in their memory, I’d hugged my kids extra because she couldn’t hug hers. But was this enough, I wondered? In her letter, Mrs. Sandler had urged people to bring extra light into the world. Was the extra light – the extra happiness, the extra good will and friendliness – I’d managed enough to really honor the dead? Was I doing enough?
Finally, late in the day, Shabbat drew to a close. The end of the day also marked the end of Rosh Chodesh, the first day of the new (Hebrew) month. It is customary at this time to recite a beautiful prayer over the reappearance of the new moon, now just a crescent in the sky. “He is a worker of truth whose deeds are true. And to the moon He instructed that she renew her glory to His chosen people, for they too will be renewed.” Like the moon, the fortunes of the Jewish people waxes and wanes. At times it the situation appears hopeless, but we know that like the cycles of the moon, we’ll see light again.

Perhaps by themselves my actions were not enough. But added together with Jews the world over who wanted to do something to help, it can have an effect. Like the moon gradually gaining light, night by night until it is full, we can all – together, slowly – create more light.
Mrs. Sandler’s letter gives us a formula. Kiss our children. Tell them we love them. Give them a Jewish education. Light Shabbat candles. Learn more Torah. Invite guests for Seder. Bring more light into the world.

Zuma in India for BRICS meeting

28th March 2012 - http://www.iol.co.za/business/international/zuma-in-india-for-brics-meeting-1.1265785
IOL News

South African President Jacob Zuma has arrived at the fourth BRICS Summit in Delhi, India, the Presidency said on Wednesday.
Zuma was leading a government and business delegation on the country’s second visit to the summit with representatives of the Brazil Russia India China South Africa (BRICS) trading block, set for Thursday and Friday.

South Africa was admitted to the bloc in China in 2011.

The 2012 summit would look at global governance as well as sustainable development matters.
The Presidency said South Africa would also use the summit to help advance the African agenda in seeking support from BRICS partners for infrastructure development and industrialisation initiatives.
South Africa would also advocate for the reform of global governance institutions.
World Bank and International Monetary Fund World Economic Outlook figures released in September 2011 indicate that BRICS countries have a combined population of 2,945.4 billion people.
The latest economic figures indicate that South Africa’s trade with BRICS countries increased between 2005 and 2010.

BRICS-Africa trade was also projected to increase from US150 billion in 2010 to US350 billion in 2015.
Standard Bank’s global head and director of structured trade and commodity finance Craig Polkinghorne said trade just between India and Africa alone could double to US100 billion in the next few years.
This could happen if the continent and one of the world's fastest growing economies fully exploit their trade potential.

“This would bring India a step closer to the level of China, whose two-way trade with Africa reached a record US115-billion in 2010 according to Chinese officials,” he said.
Polkinghorne said with India on a path of sustained and rapid economic development, there was no shortage of opportunities to deepen trade relations much further.
Factors that could drive the growth between the countries include African agricultural and mineral commodities to meet the demands of India’s growing population and rapid economic growth.
“India’s close proximity to Africa means that commodities from the continent could be shipped quicker and cheaper compared with other markets such as China and Europe,” said Polkinghorne.

He said the biggest opportunity for growth in the Africa-India trade relations was in agriculture.
Polkinghorne said India and China were going to import more food in coming decades because of their growing populations, and strained capacity to produce enough from their own resources.
Rising incomes and urbanisation were leading to dramatic increases in food consumption in India, now among countries that consume the most food in the world.
Zuma was accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies, Economic Development Minister Ebrahim Patel, the Minister of Communications, Dina Pule and Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. - Sapa

The CARMEL ALERT  March 2nd 2012
A compilation of news reports from the past week for the information of those committed to praying
for the Restoration of Israel & the Jewish People...

Guest Comment: 'We Have the Prophetic Word Confirmed’ by Colin Mitchell
2 Peter 1: 19- 21: ‘And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.’

2 Peter 2: 1:   But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.’

There is a real and enduring thirst within the body of Messiah for the prophetic word of God to be both proclaimed and understood. This understandable desire also carries with it some very real dangers.   This hunger for the prophetic has often presented challenges in terms of the person who is giving out the prophecy, the content of the message, and the methods used to convey the message. It is a generally accepted principle among all who accept the Bible as God’s word, that any prophecy given cannot in any way differ from, or contradict the revealed word of God as found in the Holy Scriptures.

If that is the case, then it must also be true to state that the body of Messiah has never been as bombarded with false teachings and prophecies as it is in this present age.  We know that dangerous false teachers were busy undermining the work of God, and infiltrating the believing community in the early church with beliefs that were contrary to the apostolic teachings of James, Peter, Paul, and those who led the first church in Jerusalem.  In Acts 20:29-30 Paul warned the Ephesians that false teachers would come to them to steal away believers and ‘also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.’

There seems no end to false teachings and wrong interpretations plaguing the body of Messiah today. There are the so called prosperity Gospel preachers, whose emphasis on material gain is a far cry from the centrality of the Cross, and all that it means. There are the Supersessionalists who declare that God has replaced Israel with the Christian Church, flying in the face of God’s eternal covenant with the Jewish people, and denying the truth of Romans chapters 9-11. These people can happily rejoice at the first coming of Yeshua as the fulfillment of the prophetic word of scripture, and then deny the same prophetic books that speak of God’s continual love and purpose for Israel and the Jewish people.

I also want to also express deep concern at a new book doing the rounds in some prophetic circles that chooses to deny that the formation of the state of Israel in 1948 was a major fulfillment of God’s prophetic word concerning the return of the Jewish people to their covenant land. The book ‘The controversy of Zion in the time of Jacob’s trouble’ written by Dalton Lifesy, does have some value in trying to keep the centrality of Israel within the forefront of eschatological thinking, but then deviates into teaching reminiscent of the late Art Katz. In basic terms, it argues against the teaching of great bible teachers such as Derek Prince and Lance Lambert by declaring that the modern birth of Israel in May 1948 was not a fulfillment of such scriptures as Ezekiel 36:22-28, and Isaiah 66:8, and that Israel faces another exile from the land in the time of Jacob’s trouble before a final later return of the Jews. The book fails to understand that God often unravels his purpose through a process of time, while also failing to do justice to the appalling Jewish suffering through the ages. These arguments deny accepted biblical teaching on Israel and ignore the critical role of the remnant in standing in the gap for Israel in the last days. When such books are written with such dogmatic certainty that denies alternative thought and contradicts great biblical teachers without any apology, they add unnecessary confusion to the body of Messiah.

Amos 9:15 ‘I will plant them (Israel) in their land, and no longer shall they be pulled up from the land I have given them,” says the Lord your God.’

God’s word is clear; There are no more exiles from the land now that Israel has been planted there. There are dark prophetic days ahead but the Messianic body in Israel is standing in the gap for the nation until it repents and prepares to welcome the Lord back to Jerusalem.

As Peter correctly proclaimed, we have the prophetic word confirmed.     Beware of those who try to undermine it.

The Lord bless you as you bless Israel by standing in defense of her right to exist on the land given to the Jewish people by the God of Israel.  Lets pray that Israel will turn back to their God.  Do not be silent, but share this with your fellow Christians, share it with your pastors, and with anyone you have a chance to speak to.   Lets also pray for that breakthrough to the Muslims,  and please remember to pray for all of the soldiers in the IDF - they are defending and fighting for   e Kingdom of God.

Shabbat Shalom .... David & Josie

THIS WEEKS NEWS REPORTS

1. International Conference Attacks Israeli Control of Jerusalem    Israel Today News  Feb 26th
The Emir of Qatar on Sunday opened the International Conference for the Defense of Jerusalem, where for the next three days Arabs and Westerners, Muslims and Christians will attack Israel's position that Jerusalem is its eternal, undivided capital.   The official program calls for discussing "the legal status of Jerusalem before and after the Israeli occupation [sic], the reality and the future of Jerusalem under occupation [sic], and the status of the holy places under international law."    Arab media reported that the conference is being held amid ongoing assaults on the Muslim-controlled Temple Mount by Israelis determined to "Judaize" the city.  There has been violence at the Temple Mount in recent days, but it has all originated on the Muslim side. Twice last week, Christian tour groups were stoned by Muslims while visiting the Temple Mount. The violence escalated on Friday, with Muslim worshippers attacking police throughout eastern Jerusalem, resulting in the death of at least one Muslim and the injuring of 11 Israelis.
But the Arab media rarely lets facts get the way of a good Israel-bashing story, and neither do the speakers at the conference in Qatar.   Opening the event was Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas, who declared, "The Israeli occupation authorities are using the ugliest and most dangerous means to implement plans to erase and remove the Arab-Islamic and the Christian character of east Jerusalem."   It should come as little surprise that such a gathering would not be missed by the anti-Zionist Rev. Stephen Sizer, an Anglican vicar from Surrey, England.   Sizer was scheduled to present his paper "Jerusalem: The City of God in Christian Tradition," in which he attempts to use scripture to refute the idea that Jerusalem was given as part of an eternal heritage to the children of Israel.  Sizer, who will be a headline speaker at the upcoming Christ at the Checkpoint conference in Bethlehem ( see here), is a vehement opponent of Christians who would use the Bible as a basis for supporting the Jewish restoration to their homeland.
Also scheduled to address this international gathering to defend Jerusalem against the Jews were representatives of the UN, the Arab League, and popular Egyptian cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who advocates the subjugation of the world to Islam and the annihilation of the Jews.  That political and religious leaders from around the world would gather to wring their hands over Israel's control of Jerusalem should come as little surprise.  "I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves." - Zechariah 12:2-3
Let's pray confusion and disagreement over this and all similar anti-Israel events

2. Has Israel Already Knocked Out Iran's Nuclear Weapons Program ?    Israel Today News  Feb 27th
One of the five million intelligence emails published by whistleblower website WikiLeaks on Monday suggested that Israel has already eliminated, at least temporarily, Iran's ability to produce a nuclear weapon.    The emails were sent and received by analysts and agents working for the Texas-based private intelligence organization Statfor. Stratfor is widely regarded as a reliable intelligence source, and  is believed to have an extensive intelligence network spanning the globe.
In one email, an analyst cites a "confirmed Israeli intelligence agent" as saying:   "The Israelis already destroyed all the Iranian nuclear infrastructure on the ground weeks ago."    Addressing the fact that tensions between Iran and Israel are mounting amid reports that the Jewish state is preparing to bomb Iran's nuclear facilities, the agent is quoted as saying:  "I think this is a diversion. The current 'let's bomb Iran' campaign was ordered by the [European] leaders to divert the public attention from their at home financial problems."
Let's pray that this report turns out to be accurate

3.  Pentagon Poised to increase Presence Near Iran   ICEJ News  Feb 27th
In the latest development of a situation which has the entire world's attention, the Pentagon notified the US Congress over the weekend that it will be sending additional military forces to the Persian Gulf in order to deter Iranian aggression and be ready to respond in case Teheran is not deterred. Elsewhere, a Saudi Arabian government statement refuted Teheran's version of events surrounding the visit of two Iranian warships to the Red Sea port of Jedda last month, raising tensions between the two regional powers even further. In related news, Lebanese Defence Minister Fayez Ghosn visited Teheran on Sunday, issuing statement warning Israel against "any foolishness in attacking Lebanon." The developments came even as the UN's International Atomic Energy Agency issued its latest report saying that the Islamic Republic has tripled its uranium-enrichment capacity, among other "serious concerns regarding possible military dimensions to Iran's nuclear program." Many of the nuclear facilities Iran has recently activated are in underground bunkers designed to protect them from air strikes.  Please pray that more military nations will take what ever measures necessary to stop Iran's aggressive behaviour

4.  PM Netanyahu to Seek Broad Agreement With Obama on Iranian Threat    Jerusalem Post   March 2nd
WASHINGTON – Israel does not want to limit its options in dealing with Iran and will seek broad understandings with the United States about possible courses of action rather than specific assurances in upcoming White House talks, Israeli and American sources said on Thursday. “ The more explicit commitments you seek from one side, the more you’re going to be asked to make commitments of your own,” said Dennis Ross, until recently the top White House adviser on Iran, warning of demands the US would make of Israel should it go down that path.  “The notion of great specificity on either end is something that is overstated,” he said.    Ross also said all the Israeli prime ministers he had known during his 30-year career “want Israel in the end to take the steps it needs to take to deal with its national security as it defines it.”
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who left on Thursday for a North American trip that will include an Oval Office visit on Monday, is no exception. He has made it clear to interlocutors that Israel maintaining maximum freedom of action will be a key message in his talks with US President Barack Obama. H   e is also understood to be looking for concrete signs that when the Obama administration says all options are on the table to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, there are actions from the US to give that statement credibility.   The Americans’ swift response to Iranian threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, including the repositioning of US Navy vessels, was one such sign, and actions that are disruptive of the Iranian nuclear program, including sabotage efforts, would also be welcome.
Ross cautioned, however, that the US would want to be told ahead of time of any military action Israel took and that taking that decision too soon would be a mistake.   “We do have lots of assets in the area, and I think every administration that I’ve been a part of would want to know what they can know as soon as they can know it,” said Ross, who has worked under Republicans and Democrats, though he now serves in a private capacity as counselor at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.
Please pray for an amiable meeting between PM Netanyahu & President Obama

5.  Israeli Technology Blesses the World  ICEJ News    Mar 2nd
The National Council for Research and Development issued a report this week giving details of Israel's world class contributions in the fields of scientific R&D and technology in the fields of medicine, agriculture, electronics, communication and much more. In 2010, Israeli companies exported $9.5 billion worth of technological services, licensing agreements on technological information, patents and related items. Another $300 million was added to that on Wednesday when Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz and Chinese Finance Minister Xie Xuren signed a deal in Beijing designed to boost export of Israeli water technology for agriculture. Israeli hi-tech also goes West, as British Ambassador to Israel, Matthew Gould said yesterday, pointing out that the bilateral trade between Israel and the UK has increased 34% to £3.75 billion ($6b) last year, negating talk of boycotts and divestment. "There is a fantastic synergy there," he said. "Our content and your technology go incredibly well together."
Lets give thanks to the Lord for the many blessings that come from the Jewish people

6.  Car-Jacking Epidemic    Israel Today News  Feb 27th
Over the past two weeks at least 13 Jewish motorists traversing the highways of Judea and Samaria (the "West Bank") have had their vehicles car-jacked and their lives threatened by Palestinian assailants.  Most of the victims have been female Jewish drivers, who have reported being forced off the road or otherwise stopped and approached by young Palestinian Arab men wielding knives.   One women said that one evening last week she stopped on the side of the road to fasten her seat belt when another car quickly pulled over in front of her. Within second, the occupants of the other car, young Palestinian men, had opened both of her front doors and were forcing the woman out of her vehicle.  "They pushed me forcibly, but I held to the steering wheel and engaged the car horn as many times as possible," said the victim. "Someone sat in the driver set and forced me out, but the seat belt was still partially around me. They tried to start driving and were dragging me on the road for several meters before I freed myself."
Another female victim recounted that after being forced off the road a week and a half ago she quickly tried to call her husband. But a young Arab man smashed the driver side window, snatched her cell-phone and yelled, "Do you want to die?"  A similar thing happened to an off-duty female police officer late Sunday night, leading to the arrest of one of the car-jackers.    Police believe the 23-year-old assailant is part of a gang that is actively targeting female Jewish drivers. With little to fear from Palestinian Authority police, the thieves are able to make good money scrapping and selling stolen Israeli vehicles.
Please pray angelic protection over Israeli motorists  and that the perpetrators are quickly apprehended

7.  Heavy Snow Fall in Jerusalem   Ha Aretz News   March 2nd

Heavy snow fell in the Jerusalem area on Friday, and for the first time in four years, parts of Jerusalem were white with snow. Snow fell in Ramot, Givat Ze’ev and Har Gilo, and three centimeters of snow fall were reported.    The Jerusalem municipality, which had prepared for the weather conditions in recent days, was due to clear snow from the streets of Jerusalem on Friday.  Snow also fell in the Golan Heights in the early hours of Friday morning, and classes were canceled in the Golan and in the area around Safad because of the weather. Safad area residents were also asked not to drive by the municipality, and there was no public transport in the area.
Cold and stormy weather swept through Israel since Tuesday, and Friday was expected to be the coldest day of the year. Snow fell on Mount Hermon and at high elevations in the Golan Heights and the Galilee on Wednesday, as well as in the central mountains. In some locations, the winds exceeded 100 kilometers per hour.   A 70-year-old man in Netanya was lightly injured on Wednesday when he was struck in the head by a glass door that was blown off its hinges. Elsewhere in the city, on Yehuda Halevi Street, a tree fell on a car, but no injuries were caused. On Tel Aviv's King George Street, traffic was disrupted when a large tree was uprooted by strong winds, tearing down power lines, ripping a bench out of the ground and blocking the street. Traffic lights and signs were blown down around the city. In south Tel Aviv's Levinsky Park, the city erected a new tent to provide shelter for the homeless.
Aviation traffic was also disrupted yesterday. A Dutch KLM jet scheduled to land at Ben-Gurion International Airport was forced to land in Cyprus instead. The Israel Airports Authority went on a state of alert for other possible disruptions in airplane traffic. Both Safed and Jerusalem received some 40 millimeters of rain, according to the Meteo-Tech meteorology firm, while Netanya had 30 millimeters of rain. The Mediterranean was particularly rough, with waves reaching up to nine meters.   The level of Lake Kinneret rose three centimeters over the past two days. Air pollution levels in the south were higher than average.
Lets thank the Lord for the rain & snow,  but  please pray that there will be no more damage done over the weekend

SA on 'high alert' for cyclone

Iafrica.com News - http://news.iafrica.com/sa/782131.html

KwaZulu-Natal disaster management teams have been placed on standby for the severe weather expected to hit the northern part of the province this weekend.

Even disaster management teams in Durban, some 400km south of Maputo, Mozambique, where Cyclone Irina was expected to make landfall, had been placed on standby.

"Disaster teams are on high alert and ready to respond to any situation," eThekwini spokesperson Thabo Mofokeng said.

KwaZulu-Natal co-operative governance MEC Nomusa Dube said in a statement on Friday that her department — responsible for disaster management in the province — had placed disaster management teams across the province on standby. These teams would be liaising with municipalities across the province.

The SA Weather Service earlier warned the storm system would dump an "extreme" amount of rain on the region over the next two to three days. According to their press release they were predicting the cyclone would make landfall close to Inhambane and Xai-Xai, north of Maputo.

"Areas around Kosi Bay, St Lucia, and Richard's Bay can expect up to 400mm of rain over this period," weather spokesperson Hannelee Doubell said.

However, the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) was predicting Irina would make landfall further south on Sunday.

Their prediction on Friday afternoon at 3pm was that the cyclone would strike land slightly south of the Mozambican capital city of Maputo on Sunday afternoon. It would make its way into Swaziland before dissipating, but northern KwaZulu-Natal would be affected.

The JTWC was predicting windspeed of up to a maximum 60 knots (111km/h).

Mofokeng advised people staying next to rivers to keep important documents in a safe place. Durban's fire department and metro police could be contacted on 031 361 0000.

The amount of rain expected was of an "extreme nature", and was last experienced when tropical cyclone Domoina hit KwaZulu-Natal in 1984.

"Domoina brought between 400 and 600mm of rain over a period of two to three days," Doubell said.

She said the system should start weakening by Tuesday.
